A severe second wave of COVID-19
is sweeping across India since April 2021 and the country’s healthcare system is overwhelmed. With more than 3.5 million active cases in the country as on 17 May, hospitals are struggling to accommodate new patients while facing shortage of essential medical supplies at the same time.
Most of you have rallied to help India push back against the pandemic, by contributing to various initiatives. Yet we hope to have you with us in this unique initiative where we not only request a contribution but also your active participation.
Organized by WYOP, Every step counts
will be a voluntary walking and running event for 12 hours
. You are welcome to walk or run for any distance or amount of time you feel comfortable with or challenging enough during these 12 hours. You can also have your own relay team and participate. WYOP member, Indranil Bhattacharya, will be attempting to run for 12 hours at a stretch.
This event is a gesture to acknowledge and salute the superhuman effort that the medical fraternity and other support personnel are putting in the fight against COVID. Your walk or run will also be a mark of respect to these warriors, and a pledge towards improving your fitness in the fight against COVID.
The funds raised from the event will be transparently passed on to one or more verified organizations or initiatives working on COVID relief in India.
